Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Lift Station Replacement Project?

Pinellas County Utilities is replacing Lift Station 79, a wastewater pump station located at the site of the Town Hall for the Town of North Redington Beach (190 173rd Ave., North Redington Beach, FL 33708). Lift Station 79 collects the wastewater from both the Town of North Redington Beach and the Town of Redington Shores. The wastewater is pumped out of the lift station into the wastewater collection system that ends at the South Cross Bayou Advanced Water Reclamation Facility.

Why is the project needed?

The new lift station is necessary because the existing lift station is nearing the end of its useful life.

In addition, the existing location of the lift station and its electrical panels need to be relocated to properly integrate with the location of the future rescue station. Once the new lift station is built and is fully operational, construction will begin on the new rescue station that will also be built at the same location.

Who is responsible for the project?

The County selected the general contracting firm of Wharton Smith, Inc. to build the project. They have assembled a top-notch team with specialized experience to construct the project.

What about the new rescue station?

The new rescue station is a priority project. Due to limited space for both the rescue station and the lift station, the existing lift station needs to be relocated to a different site on the property first, to facilitate the construction of the rescue station. The construction of the rescue station is anticipated to start after the lift station is completed in early 2023.

How much will the lift station cost?

Construction of the lift station will cost approximately $4.3 million. Funding is from Utilities Department Sewer Enterprise Funds.

Will the project increase my utility fees?

No. This project is being funded with Utilities Department Sewer Enterprise Funds.

How will residents stay up to date on the project and who can they contact with questions?
