Vacancy Announced on Value Adjustment Board

Applications are due by 3 p.m. on Nov. 12, 2025

Applications are being accepted for one citizen appointment for a two-year term on the Value Adjustment Board beginning Jan. 1, 2026. This volunteer position is appointed by the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners. The citizen appointed by the County Commission must own homestead property within the county, and the citizen appointed by the School Board must own a business occupying commercial space within the school district.

The Value Adjustment Board serves as the decision-making authority when there is disagreement between a property owner and the property appraiser concerning exemptions, valuations and classifications. The Board Records Department of the Clerk of the Circuit Court serves as the clerk, administering processes related to the board.

The Value Adjustment Board meets between 30 and 60 days after the Department of Revenue mails the assessment rolls to hear petitions relating to assessments. It also meets before the 25th day to hear complaints relating to homestead exemptions and to hear appeals from exemptions denied or disputes arising from exemptions granted.

Decisions are issued within 20 calendar days of the last day the board is in session. The board hires special masters to hear appeals and make recommendations. The board remains in session from day to day until all petitions, complaints, appeals and disputes are heard.

The board consists of two members of the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners, one of whom is elected chair of the Value Adjustment Board at the time of appointment, one member of the School Board, and two members of the public. One public member is appointed by the County Commission, and the other by the School Board.

Applications are due by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025. Applications are available at https://pinellas.gov/boards-councils-and-committees/.
