St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport Director Tom Jewsbury announces retirement after decades of service
Today, Thomas Jewsbury, Airport Director of St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport (PIE) announced his retirement, marking the close of a distinguished career in aviation leadership spanning more than 30 years at PIE. Jewsbury will officially step down from his role on Oct. 1, 2025.
Jewsbury joined PIE in 1994 and was appointed Airport Director in 2015, overseeing a period of unprecedented growth in passenger traffic, air service expansion and facility modernization. Under his leadership, PIE became one of the fastest-growing airports in the United States, serving millions of travelers annually while maintaining its reputation for convenience and customer service.
During his tenure, Jewsbury guided major capital improvement projects totaling more than $197 million, including terminal upgrades and airfield enhancements, ensuring PIE’s readiness for future growth. He also played a key role in strengthening the airport’s partnership with Allegiant Air and other carriers, expanding travel options for the Tampa Bay region. As director, Jewsbury helped bring in more than $131 million in grants over his tenure.
“Serving as Director of PIE has been the honor of my professional life,” said Jewsbury. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together – from welcoming new destinations to improving the passenger experience – and I am grateful to our dedicated airport staff, community partners and travelers who have made PIE such a special place.”
Pinellas County Administrator Barry Burton has formally appointed PIE Deputy Director Mark Sprague to serve as the Interim Airport Director until a search can be completed to appoint the next permanent director.
