Stop Sewer Service Charges After a Sewer Cut & Cap

After a Sewer Cut & Cap has been completed, you can proceed with removing sewer services. To remove sewer services, you first need to obtain a demolition permit, follow through with the demolition, and then obtain a Certification of Final Inspection of the Sewer Cut & Cap. Pinellas County Building and Development Review Services (BDRS) Department’s Permitting Guide will assist you in the permit process. If you have already completed the demolition and your permit is through Pinellas County, then you can search for your certificate in the Pinellas County Access Portal. If done by another municipality, you will need to contact them for this certificate. Once the process above is completed, the form below can be filled out to cease billing for Pinellas County sewer services.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a sewer cut and cap?

The property sewer lines are disconnected from the main service line after demolition. A sewer cut and cap refers to the process of disconnecting and sealing off a sewer line, often during demolition or when a building is removed. It’s a crucial step to prevent wastewater from leaking into the environment and to ensure the integrity of the remaining sewer system. This process involves cutting the sewer lateral (the pipe connecting the building to the main sewer line) and then securely capping or sealing the end of the pipe.

Will my account be closed?

No. The account will remain as long as the property is owned.  Sewer will be removed from the account.  Base charges will continue for other services (water, backflow, etc.).

What happens if the property scheduled for demolition is not fully demolished?

Sewer services will remain on the account.

What happens when we rebuild?

Contact Pinellas County to install sewer to the account. Sewer charges may be retroactively added if Pinellas County is not notified.
