Are you seeing higher water bills? Water Conservation can help.
Our digital meter project is replacing older analog meters that have a tendency to provide inaccurately low readings over time due to mechanical wear. These new, digital meters will provide you with more precise and up-to-date water readings so you can more accurately control your water usage and implement water conservation measures to help decrease your water use and your bills.
There are sneaky sources of water waste all around our homes. Some common problems we encounter are:
- Sprinklers on autotimers that water lawns in the middle of the night without you knowing.
- Swimming pools with auto-fillers in their pump systems.
- Pool care companies adding water to pools as part of their service using hose spigots around your house without notifying you.
- Undetected leaks.
We encourage all our customers to routinely check their home for areas of water waste. You can find conservation tips at pinellas.gov/water-conservation to help lower your water use and bills. We’ve also made identifying potential leaks easier by creating a leak detection guide to help you troubleshoot issues at pinellas.gov/leak-detector-guide.
If you’re concerned that your meter is not measuring your usage properly, we recommending conducting a bucket test by performing the following steps.
- Turn off all the water fixtures in your house.
- Record the reading on your water meter.
- Fill up a 5-gallon bucket from a hose spigot or shower.
- Go back and re-read the water meter. It should show 5 gallons moved through the meter.
If you see a different reading than that, give us a call at (727) 464-4000.
For those requiring further evaluation we offer a professional meter test service for a $140 fee. If the test reveals a problem with the meter, repairs will be conducted at no additional cost.
