Battlefield Cross Memorial
As early as the Civil War, a battlefield cross has been used to mark the place on the battlefield where military service personnel made the ultimate sacrifice.
Pinellas County established a Battlefield Cross Monument at War Veterans’ Memorial Park to honor Pinellas County’s fallen service members of the Gulf War Era. Several Pinellas County departments including Communications, Human Services, Parks and Conservation Resources and Veterans Services worked with Gold Star Mothers and local veterans’ advocate, Father Robert “Bob” Swick to dedicate the monument. Families of the fallen and nearly 300 residents attended the ceremony to dedicate the Battlefield Cross Monument on Memorial Day 2015.
The monument is located at the Memorial Center across from the Sundial and can be visited during regular park hours.
