Pinellas County opens expanded Bayside Health Clinic

Pinellas County Human Services officially reopened Bayside Health Clinic with a ribbon cutting Friday following completion of the facility’s 2,400-square-foot expansion, which includes the addition of mental health and substance use services.

Since its 2016 opening, the clinic has provided quality medical and dental care to over 7,000 patients experiencing homelessness and more than 31,000 medical encounters through the County’s Health Care for the Homeless Program. Now, the facility has expanded to provide additional dental services along with on-site behavioral health care.

The expansion adds four behavioral health offices for on-site mental health and substance use services, four new exam rooms, an additional dental operatory with three dental chairs, a conference room, improved professional office spaces for clinic care coordination staff and storage.

The Health Care for the Homeless Program serves individuals experiencing homelessness by meeting them where they are and providing medical care in various locations throughout the community through Street Medicine. Additionally, the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) travels countywide to shelters, drop-in centers, substance use treatment facilities and other high-traffic locations. The new MMU, which features two private exam rooms, a private counseling room, a lab drawing/counseling area and an intake area, was also launched during the event.

The expansion and renovation of the clinic was funded by Department of Health & Human Services, Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) capital grants totaling $1,344,333 in federal funding, $520,000 in County Capital Improvement Project funding and $352,250 in HRSA American Rescue Plan funding.
