Draft 2026 Florida Ambient Air Monitoring Network Plan

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Air Monitoring has posted its Draft 2026 Florida Ambient Air Monitoring Network Plan.

Federal regulations require that the air quality monitoring network be reviewed annually to identify any need for additions, relocations, or terminations of monitoring sites or instrumentation. The plan is submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for review and approval.

Pinellas County’s Air Quality Monitoring program is an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-approved program that monitors ambient air quality throughout the county for federally designated criteria air pollutants, including ozone, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and particulates. The monitoring program also provides daily Air Quality Index forecasts and information to the public and private sectors on issues related to air quality and pollution.

Our environmental laboratory performs sampling and analysis to identify volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and certain Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) for a national EPA air toxics monitoring program as well as special purpose monitoring.

The Air Quality Monitoring program is subject to rigorous quality assurance processes, which includes regular audits by both the EPA and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
