Project Overview
Assessment of damage at the site caused by hurricanes in 2024 showed that returning the ramp and floating docks to their pre-storm condition would not be sufficient to withstand projected impacts from future similar storms. This finding led us to decide to design a more storm-resistant structure.
The design, which involved floating docks with concrete rather than wooden piers, was recently completed and has gone through our quality control process to help ensure that the work we do at the War Veterans Park boat ramp will last into the future. Contracting is underway and we are moving rapidly to issue what is called a “notice to proceed” to our construction contractor for this project.
Piles, gangways, and docks for the improved boat ramp facilities have to be prefabricated by specialized manufacturers offsite before onsite construction activity begins. According to the fabrication suppliers, offsite fabrication of the piles, gangways, and docks should be completed by mid-year. Our aim is to have the new, improved boat ramp open to the public by year’s end.
