Understanding the Dashboard

Permit Categories

The dashboard displays timelines for three permit categories:

  • Single-Family: includes both new and repair permits for single family residences.
  • Medium Projects: includes new and repair permits for multi-use facilities such as condos, and small dredge permits.
  • Complex Projects: includes new and repair permits for commercial facilities, and medium and large dredge projects.

Note: We group permit types by complexity. These do not include permit revisions.

Timeframes & Data Points

You may review time frames within the last 30, 60, 90, and 120 days.

For each category, you will see:

  • Typical Review Time (in days): The average time a first review usually takes.
  • Number of Applications Received: The total count of permits used to calculate that timeline.

Reviewed Permit Volume Status

These labels show how the current number of permits reviewed compared to the average activity seen over the past three years.

  • Higher Than Normal: We reviewed more permits compared to the typical three-year average.
  • Normal: The number of permits reviewed is about the same as the three-year average.
  • Lower Than Normal: We reviewed fewer permits compared to the typical three-year average.

On Schedule vs. Delayed Permit Review Times

A permit’s status is determined by how long first review takes compared to its target time. A permit is On Schedule if it’s reviewed within the target timeframe for its category, while a permit is Delayed if it’s past that target.

Single Family Target: 12 days
Medium Project Target: 20 days
Complex Project: 30 days
