Donate Glasses for Good

Your old glasses can do wonders.

Thank You to All Who Donated Glasses

We collected used glasses at collection sites across the County in July 2023, in partnership with our vision plan administrator EyeMed. Donations included prescription, non-prescription, sunglasses, and reader glasses.

Here are the amazing totals:

  • 1,076 pairs of eyeglasses
  • $5,380 raised for OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation
Onesight pouch and pair of eyeglasses
OneSight collection box full of donated glasses

What will happen to the glasses that were donated?

Glasses still in good condition will be donated to the Lions Club, who cleans them and provides them to communities in need. As part of the Lions Club’s focus on vision, they recycle eyeglasses to offer the gift of sight to those in need.

What is the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation?

As part of their Donate for Good Program, EyeMed is donating $5 to the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation for every pair collected, for a grand total of $5,380.

OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation collaborates with governments, global and local NGOs, and other private sector partners to give vision care access to those with poor vision around the world. They provide access to free eye exams, free glasses, and funding for vision care programs. OneSight trains people to be primary vision care entrepreneurs, supports them to set up their own optical shops, and provides mobile services in their communities. They work with local governments and communities to build permanent vision centers alongside hospitals and clinics.

Contributions will impact the following OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation programs, as well as being used elsewhere as the Foundation determines a need.

  • Each fall, OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation conducts five mobile vision clinics at north Texas juvenile detention centers. Through these clinics, approximately 300 incarcerated youth receive free vision exams and prescription glasses each year.
  • Through the Changing Life Through Lenses Program, 50,000 pairs of glasses are distributed every year across the United States through a network of charitable eye doctors. Doctors in the network agree to offer charitable exams to patients in need. They can then submit prescription orders through Changing Life Through Lenses’ online platform and the Foundation will ship prescription glasses to them free of charge.
