Pinellas County opens new, improved Bay Pier at Fort De Soto Park 

Pinellas County Parks & Conservation Resources officially reopened Bay Pier at Fort De Soto Park with a ribbon cutting Thursday following completion of the Penny for Pinellas-funded Fort De Soto Bay Pier Replacement project. 

The County removed the previous pier last year due to deterioration and constructed a new pier in the same location using concrete pilings, concrete beams and a concrete deck. The new pier includes a shade structure at the top of the ramp to the dock for the Egmont Key Ferry, low-level deck lighting along the pier with special pole lighting at the waterward end, and fish-cleaning stations. 

The Penny for Pinellas provided $4,764,300 in construction costs, and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) provided $1 million for the project’s environmental assessment and design.
