Project Overview
Pinellas County is planning for the replacement of the 13th Street Bridge as part of an ongoing effort to maintain and operate a network of more than 140 bridges.
The 13th Street Bridge was originally constructed in 1957 and repaired in 1992. Preliminary engineering reports conducted in 2018 and 2021 show the existing bridge is nearing the end of its useful life and requires complete replacement. The bridge provides the only access to the island community of Paradise Key, a part of Tierra Verde.
The existing bridge is approximately 120-feet-long with three equal spans of 40 feet. The bridge has an overall roadway width of 37 feet, providing two 12-foot lanes and 3.75 feet of sidewalks on both sides.
Pinellas County is proposing a 180-foot-long bridge with three equal spans of 60 feet to help improve water flow and reduce scour through the canal. The proposed bridge will have an overall width of 49 feet, providing two 12-foot lanes, shoulders, and 6-foot sidewalks on both sides.
