This project will enhance the Fort De Soto recycling program by consolidating the two existing recycling drop-off locations within the park into a single, more efficient site. We will upgrade the facility by stabilizing and reinforcing the foundation beneath the recycling containers to ensure long-term durability.

Project FAQ

Why is this project happening before the hurricane restoration projects?

The Recycling Drop-Off Center Improvement Project is funded by the Solid Waste Trust Funds, which are separate funds from those covering storm recovery. The project began before the 2024 storms but was delayed by the storms and recovery efforts.

What is the purpose of this project?

The purpose of this project is to enhance the recycling drop-off site at Fort De Soto Park to better serve park visitors and improve accessibility for the County’s recycling service provider.

The campground drop-off center and boat ramp drop-off center are being combined into one. After the construction project is complete, the campground recycling drop-off center will close permanently.

Will the construction interrupt park operations?

The construction project is limited to the boat ramp parking area and will have minimal impact on park operations.

How long is this construction project?

The project is expected to last 90-100 days after it begins on March 16.

Where can I drop off my recycling while the Fort De Soto drop-off center is closed?

The recycling drop-off center located at the Fort De Soto campground will be open during the construction project. Residents can also find another recycling drop-off center near them by using this map. One container will be available at the campground drop-off center; however, pickup frequency will increase.
