Ramp Update

The contractor for the project plans to close the ramp on July 31, 2026, to begin repairs. They will start with demolition of the old docks then begin concrete repairs before setting the new docks, gangways and handrails. The ramp is expected to re-open by November 2026. The latest updates can be found on this page.

Project Overview

Assessment of damage at the site caused by hurricanes in 2024 showed that returning the ramp and floating docks to their pre-storm condition would not be sufficient to withstand impacts from similar future storms. This finding led us to design a more storm-resistant structure.

The final design, including floating docks with concrete rather than wooden piers, has gone through our quality control process, and we recently gave the construction contractor a “notice to proceed.”

Piles, gangways, and docks for the improved boat ramp facilities will be prefabricated by specialized manufacturers offsite before onsite construction activity begins. According to the suppliers, offsite fabrication should be completed by mid-year. Our aim is to have the new, improved boat ramp open to the public by year’s end.
