JOB SUMMARY
This is a specialized position working for Pinellas County’s Destination Marketing Organization also known as Visit St. Pete-Clearwater (VSPC) and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. This position directs and develops the strategy to create advertising concepts and campaigns that deliver results and meet organizational objectives. Work involves overseeing the budget, expenditures, and resource allocation for advertising campaigns.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)
- Plans, assigns, trains, supervises, and evaluates the work of support staff including creating goals, objectives, and accountability, developing individual development plans, and conducting performance appraisals;
- Works closely with other departments within VSPC to ensure a cohesive marketing strategy;
- Forges partnerships with local businesses, hotels, restaurants, and other stakeholders to create joint advertising campaigns and promotions that benefit both VSPC and local businesses;
- Constantly engages in stakeholder communications;
- Directs and reviews creative initiatives to ensure brand consistency;
- Oversees the creation of compelling advertising content, including graphics, videos, and written copy, to engage and attract potential visitors;
- Plans and executes successful campaign launches;
- Manages the advertising budget effectively, allocating resources to different advertising channels such as print, digital, social media, and events;
- Engages with the local community and solicits input from residents and businesses to ensure that advertising efforts align with the county’s authentic identity and values; and
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Ten (10) years of experience in marketing, communication, advertising, tourism or business fields that includes three (3) years of responsible management or supervisory experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field and six (6) years of experience as described above; or a master’s degree in a related field and four (4) years of experience as described above; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Special Qualifications (May be required depending on area of assignment):
- Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME).
- Florida Driver’s License or Florida Commercial Driver’s License and endorsement, if any.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- Other knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials required for a specific position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of the hospitality and travel industry, organizations, and regional marketing principles, practices, and procedures;
- Advanced knowledge of communications, marketing and advertising practices;
- Advanced knowledge of research methods and appropriate means for gathering and reporting information regarding trends impacting development and refinement of marketing and public relations programs;
- Skill in office management, computer literacy, Microsoft office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel., communication, organization, telephone and email etiquette;
- Skill in media purchasing, rating and pricing media, and contract negotiations;
- Skill in successfully developing and implementing promotions and partnerships;
- Skill in public speaking and ability to communicate complex ideas and plans effectively to various audiences;
- Ability to manage cooperative advertising and promotional partnerships;
- Ability to work with advertising representatives to conduct meaningful analysis of actual ads in relationship to size, drawing power, and competition;
- Ability to lead and motivate others to achieve goals;
- Ability to formulate, initiate, and administer policies and procedures for effective fiscal control;
- Ability to promote and maintain effective departmental, inter-departmental, and public relations.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
- Visual ability: Sufficient to effectively operate office equipment including copier, computer, etc.; and to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
- Hearing ability: Sufficient to hold a conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone; and to hear recording on transcription device.
- Speaking ability: Sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over a telephone.
- Mental acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Repetitive motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
