JOB SUMMARY

This is a specialized position working for Pinellas County’s Destination Marketing Organization also known as Visit St. Pete/Clearwater (VSPC) and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. This position is responsible for being a key driver in the planning, execution, and successful completion of marketing projects and campaigns. Work involves collaborating with various departments and stakeholders for the development and implementation of a wide variety of integrated marketing and advertising programs to ensure projects align with strategic goals and are delivered on time and within budget. The position encompasses project planning, resource management, and performance tracking to maximize the impact of marketing initiatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)

  • Ensures that all marketing campaigns and materials comply with local regulations and industry standards;
  • Develops detailed project plans including objectives, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, for marketing initiatives and campaigns aimed at promoting the destination;
  • Coordinates aspects of marketing campaigns including advertising, content creation, social media, email marketing, and event promotion, ensuring they align with VSPC’s goals and target audience;
  • Collaborates with various teams such as digital, creative, public relations, and brand engagement to ensure all elements of the marketing campaign work together seamlessly;
  • Contributes to the creation of marketing content plans that align with the campaign’s messaging, including website copy, blog posts, social media content, videos, and visual assets;
  • Utilizes project management tools to track progress and communicate with team members;
  • Uses data analytics tools to track and measure the performance of marketing campaigns, analyzes key performance indicators (KPIs) and makes data-driven recommendations for optimization;
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Four (4) years’ experience in tourism, business, marketing, communications or advertising; or an associate’s degree in related field and two (2) years of experience as listed above; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field as listed above; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.  

Special Qualifications (May be required depending on area of assignment):

  • Project Management certification (PM).
  • Florida Driver’s License or Florida Commercial Driver’s License and endorsement, if any.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
  • Other knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials required for a specific position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the hospitality and tourism industries, organizations, communications, advertising, and regional marketing principles, practices, and procedures;
  • Knowledge of research methods and appropriate means for gathering and reporting information regarding trends impacting development and refinement of marketing and public relations programs;
  • Knowledge of a variety of software required for the job;
  • Knowledge of brand identity, brand guidelines, and how to ensure brand consistency across various marketing materials and channels;
  • Skill in office management, computer literacy, Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, communication, organization, telephone and email etiquette;
  • Skill successfully developing and implementing promotions and partnerships;
  • Skill in public speaking and ability to communicate complex ideas and plans effectively to various audiences;
  • Ability to manage cooperative advertising and promotional partnerships;
  • Ability to work with advertising representatives to conduct meaningful analysis of actual ads in relationship to size, drawing power, and competition;
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with cross-functional teams, agencies, and stakeholders;
  • Ability to understand how to integrate various marketing channels (online and offline) into a cohesive strategy;
  • Ability to promote and maintain effective departmental, inter-departmental, and public relations.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.  Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Visual ability: Sufficient to effectively operate office equipment including copier, computer, etc.; and to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
  • Hearing ability: Sufficient to hold a conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone; and to hear recording on transcription device.
  • Speaking ability: Sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over a telephone.
  • Mental acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Repetitive motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
