Project Overview

Pinellas County Public Works is planning to make sidewalk improvements along 46th Avenue North in the unincorporated area of Lealman. The project begins in Lealman at the intersection of 49th Street North and continues east for approximately one mile to the intersection of 37th Street North.

It extends through a residential neighborhood that currently does not have a sidewalk on the north side of the road and consists of the design and construction of ADA-compliant sidewalks, curb ramps and drainage improvements to provide a pathway for pedestrians and bicyclists. The main goals for this sidewalk improvement project are to improve safety and provide connectivity to local parks, the future Joe’s Creek Trail and businesses on 49th Street.

The existing 46th Avenue North roadway is classified as a rural typical section with two 10-foot travel lanes, roadside swales and a 5-foot sidewalk on the south side. The roadway has a posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour. The roadway was resurfaced last in 2018 and a mid-block pedestrian crossing was added at Raymond H. Neri Community Park.

The proposed sidewalks for this project are consistent with the new sidewalks being installed in the Lealman area along 46th Avenue North, west of 49th Street, from 55th Street N. to 49th Street N. This project was identified as a focus corridor in the 2019 Linking Lealman Action Plan.
