Westwinds and Crosswinds Bridges Project
Westwinds Drive over the Westwinds Canal and Crosswinds Drive over the Crosswinds Canal in Palm Harbor.
Construction: In progress
May 26, 2023: To facilitate the concrete placement for the bridge deck, the traffic lane over the Crosswinds bridge will be reduced from a 13-foot width down to 10-foot, 6-inches, starting on May 30. The traffic lane is expected to be restored to a 13-foot width by June 1.
The contractor continues to prepare the bridge deck of the westbound lane and sidewalk for concrete overlay placement. The reinforcing steel and dowels are currently being installed with forms and screed guides to be installed next. Concrete is tentatively scheduled to be placed beginning the morning of May 31.
The contractor is still working on restoration of the canal to ensure the depths meet the pre-construction conditions.
Note: The Westwinds Drive Bridge was completed in July 2021 (pictured, above left) and is open for use.
Pinellas County is replacing the Westwinds and Crosswinds Bridges as part of its ongoing effort to maintain and operate the network of over 140 bridges located throughout the County. Pinellas County Public Works, through the County’s Capital Improvement Program, is replacing the aging bridges on Westwinds Drive over the Westwinds Canal and Crosswinds Drive over the Crosswinds Canal in Palm Harbor. The new bridges will meet current design criteria and provide wider shoulders and raised sidewalks on both sides allowing for a safer pedestrian facility.
