Pinellas County promotes a healthy lifestyle for its employees through the Wellness Program. Check out these free resources and tips to help you create healthy habits, exercise more, eat better, stay active, reduce stress, stop smoking and much more. The resources are listed alphabetically.

Caregiving

  • AARP Family Caregiver Resource Guide – National and local support program guide to help you access key programs and services. Also call the AARP Family Caregiver Resource Line at (888) 885-0013.
  • Behavioral Awareness Series: All About Autism – Learn about caring for a child with Autism and receive expert advice on how to handle day-to-day challenges.
  • Dementia Care and Cure Initiative – Engaging Florida to be more dementia caring and encouraging those living with dementia to still be a part of their communities.
  • Elder Affairs Florida – Call the Elder Helpline for Information & Referral available in English or Spanish or (800) 963-5337 or visit the website. Administers programs and services through the Aging and Disability Resource Centers for long-term care resources.
  • Elder Options – Call the helpline at (800) 262-2243 or visit the website to request one-to-one coaching, supportive services, training, and community resources related to dementia.
  • Linda Burhans’ Caregiver Radio – Radio show, events, blogs, tips, and other training for caregivers.
  • Pinellas County Age-Friendly Services and Resources – Includes social services, housing, transportation, community and health services, news and information, volunteer opportunities, discounts, Pinellas County partner services, and Parks and recreation.
  • Savvy Caregiver Training – Free live online training program for caregivers who assist persons with dementia.
  • Senior Housing Resources – Find a community that is right for you or your loved one’s situation.
  • Supporting Family Members – National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) discusses how to approach helping a loved one struggling with mental health.
  • Taking Care of Yourself – To help those around you, you must take care of yourself.

Dementia

  • Alzheimer’s Association – Resources for people living with Alzheimer’s disease or a memory-related disorder and their caregivers, including support groups, care consultation and educational programs.
  • Dementia Care and Cure Initiative – Engaging Florida to be more dementia caring and encouraging those living with dementia to still be a part of their communities.

Financial

No-cost assistance is available from the following sources to help you with financial planning related to debt, budgeting, retirement and investments:

  • BrightPlan Academy Find quick guides for financial education ranging from balance transfers to how to build an emergency fund (part of Optum’s Employee Assistance Program).
  • Consumer Financial Protection Bureau – Access consumer education tools including:

    • Visit FEDlogic or call (877) 837-4196 to talk with a federal and state benefits expert who can help maximize your retirement benefits including Social Security and Medicare. 
  • Florida Retirement System (FRS)
    • Visit FRS for financial planning resources.
    • Call the MyFRS Financial Guidance Line at (866) 446-9377 to speak with a certified financial planner from Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • MyMoney.gov Five & Tools – Discover the 5 building blocks for managing and growing your money and helpful tools for making informed financial decisions.
  • Optum (Employee Assistance Program)

      • Financial counseling: Two free phone calls with a financial coach
      • ID theft support: Free 60-minute consultation with a Fraud Resolution Specialist.
    • Visit Optum’s Live and Work Well, select Browse with an access code, and enter the code: Pinellas for help with financial questions and tips to boost savings, lower debt, improve credit, and budget better.
