Human Resources Business Partners Shadow Departments

June 2024

During April and May, Missy Kracher, Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) for Utilities, had the opportunity to ride along and shadow several areas of Utilities, including Plant Operations, Maintenance & Repair, Field Services, and Water Distribution Maintenance Flushing. This shadowing helped Missy gain a better understanding of Utilities’ operations which will assist her in providing enhanced service and support as their HRBP where she conducts investigations; reviews and provides guidance on discipline, grievance, and policy interpretation; and is also available for mediations, climate assessments, strategic planning, team building events, and performance management.

Not only did Missy benefit from this experience as an HRBP, but she also benefited as a recent first-time Pinellas County homeowner, as she is now able to locate the water meter and monitor her own household water usage, has the ability to recognize various utility markings, and is able to educate others on water conservation efforts. Missy plans to do more shadowing with other areas of Utilities in the near future.

Beginning in March, Michelle Musser, HR Business Partner (HRBP), had the privilege of shadowing several teams at Solid Waste to gain knowledge and understanding of all operations. The shadowing opportunities included Scalehouse Operations, Asset Management, Human Resources, Business & Financial Services, Recycling & Outreach, Water Treatment Facility, Operations and Maintenance. There are 2 teams remaining to be shadowed: Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and the Waste to Energy Plant. After these rotations, Michelle will have experienced the entire lifecycle of waste accepted at the Pinellas County Solid Waste Facility and fully understand why the Solid Waste employees are vital to this process. During the experience, Michelle’s appreciation for the mission and vision of Solid Waste grew significantly and further heightened her sense of responsibility as an employee and citizen of Pinellas County.

Michelle wants to remind everyone of Solid Waste’s mission: “Manage Waste as a Resource”, and vision: “Zero Waste to Landfill by 2050”, as it must be a top priority for both citizens and employees of Pinellas County. Lastly, she asks for all to remember the 4 R’s: Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle and Recover.
