Safety is Pinellas County Solid Waste’s top priority

To reduce accidents and protect the public’s safety, Pinellas County Solid Waste requires customers to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while at the Solid Waste Disposal Complex.

PPE Kits for Purchase

Customers can purchase PPE (except for closed-toed shoes) from the Scalehouse. See Disposal Fees: Solid Waste Disposal Complex for pricing.

Required Personal Protective Equipment

At the Citizen Hand-Unload area, customers are required to wear:

Closed-toed shoes (no sandals)

At the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facility, yard waste/tire processing areas, landfill and transfer area, customers are required to wear:

Safety helmet
Eye protection
Closed-toed shoes (no sandals)
High visibility shirt or vest 

Vehicle and Equipment Safety Requirements

Tip Trailers Must Have a Designated Power Source

Tip trailers must have a permanently installed or designated onboard power source designed to safely operate the trailer.

The use of jumper cables, vehicle batteries and portable batteries to power tip trailers is prohibited.

The following actions are not allowed onsite:

  • Using jumper cables connected to another vehicle or a portable battery to power a tip trailer.
  • Removing a vehicle battery and connecting it to a tip trailer for operation.
